News and Events

In April 2022 Sustainable Projects Ireland hosted an online event on Just Transition. This webinar was broadcast from the WeCreate Enterprise Centre in Cloughjordan Ecovillage.

Ensuring a Just Transition is key to societal adaptation to ecological crises, in particular climate change. But what exactly is it, and what is really involved in such a transition in the agri-food context?

A recording of this event is available here.

During this event we heard from both speakers and attendees, both offline and online. We have collated the information harvested together to help determine some of the requirements for a Just Transition for rural communities in Ireland, see our post-event synergy report here.

Prior to facilitating this event we had released our report Rural Ireland on the Move: farm diversification and just transition.  This report was supported by ARC2020 and UCC’s Centre for Cooperative Studies.

This report reviews the literature on Just Transition and makes the case that diversifications (farming, on farm, off farm, rural) can aid the process of delivering a true Just Transition in Ireland.
