The Cloughjordan Ecovillage is a
not-for-profit organisation developing an alternative model for
sustainable living. The ecovillage aims to provide a healthy,
satisfying and socially-rich lifestyle while minimising ecological
impacts.
Our 67-acre site includes beautiful and
fertile land for growing food and trees to promote local food
production and biodiversity. The ecovillage will also include:
* 114 low energy homes and 16 live-work units
* A solar- and wood- powered community heating system
* Pedestrian pathways lined with fruit and nut trees, and a streamside walkway
* 50 acres of land for allotments, farming and woodland
* A green enterprise centre and broadband
* A centre of education for sustainable living
* An eco- hostel for visitors
* A nearby train station and local car-sharing scheme

Full Immersive Permaculture Course 20th - 29th August
The ecovillage is hosting a full immersive permaculture course run by the Cultivate Centre. This intensive course offers the unique opportunity to learn permaculture embedded in a real living community. Click here for more information and contact details.


Eco-hostel and Learning Centre under construction
Construction of the 32 bed eco-hostel is well underway. The hostel will provide affordable quality accommodation and learning activities for our guests, and promote the ecovillage philosophy of community, sustainability and ecological and environmental awareness. Eco-Enterprise Centre to begin construction in September
The Enterprise Centre will provide an incubation space for new green business, providing community enterprise workspace infrastructure which clusters a number of manufacturing and service businesses within the common theme of eco-entrepreneurship. Through the promotion of new green business, the eco-enterprise centre will play a key part in developing a sustainable local economy in Cloughjordan. Read more in the Business & Livelihoods section.  

Cloughjordan Festival 2010
The annual Cloughjordan Festival is a blossoming of culture, sport, learning and fun in beautiful north Tipperary. There was something for almost everyone again this year in this family-friendly festival. Check out the packed 2010 Festival Schedule here.


VINE launches high speed broadband in ecovillage!
VINE (Village Internet Network Engineering Ltd) was set up by some members of the ecovillage to provide telecommunications services for residents in the ecovillage and surrounding area, using fibre optic network. Read more about VINE.


Residents living in the ecovillage!

The first residents of the ecovillage have moved into their new homes. A further 25 houses are currently under construction using a wide variety of ecological materials including lime-hemp, recycled timber blocks and low energy timber frame.
